Retirement has brought the opportunity to indulge in a lifelong interest of all things automotive. The Morgan was bought primarily for personal use but it seemed a shame not to share the experience with others who understandably don’t want the full time commitment of their own vehicle.
We carry out most of the maintenance ourselves which can be viewed on our Facebook blog.
Based in Skipton, we are happy to deliver to and collect the car from your door on the day within a 10 mile radius.
As it is our only hire car you can be assured of a genuine personal service.
It must have been a quiet news day when we launched because we even made it into the local press, the Craven Herald.
As for the car itself, it is a 1.8 litre Morgan 4/4, manufactured at the Pickersleigh Road factory, Malvern Link in 1996 and sold through Life's Motors, Southport where it was subsequently serviced 15 times.
The Morgan motor company was founded in 1910 and originally made 3 wheelers, mostly with V-twin engines. The 4/4 was introduced in 1936 and got its name from the fact that it had 4 wheels and a 4 cylinder engine. The name lives on in today's 4/4, and although the body style has changed a little since 1936, it is basically identical to the Morgan of 1954.
The 4/4 has the longest production run of any car in the world and is still hand built to this day at the Malvern Link factory using many of the original jigs.
Over the years, Morgan has sourced engines and gearboxes from manufacturers such as Triumph, Rover, Ford and even Fiat.
Furthermore, they have also used other manufacturers' parts bins for the interior as well.
If you look carefully at our car, you can spot the dash light switch and steering column controls come from a Triumph Stag and the interior door handles from a Landrover Defender!
In an affectionate nod to its 100 year history. in 2012 Morgan reintroduced the 3 wheeler to its range and so popular has it been that it is now comfortably its best selling car!
To anybody with the slightest interest in cars, a visit to the factory will prove fascinating. Trips can be booked at the Morgan Motor Company 01684 573104.
Fun day out!
